Michael D. Carter is the founder and CEO of IC Edge (Intercultural Competence Edge), a St. Paul-based team-building and inclusion consulting firm dedicated to helping organizations foster trust, collaboration, and productivity. Since 2015, IC Edge has served clients nationwide with customized, research-based solutions that strengthen individual and team performance, often incorporating intercultural competence principles.

Michael’s core belief is simple but powerful: when we prioritize the team's success before the individual's, we unlock the full potential of collaboration. His work centers on guiding organizations through their team-building journeys and equipping them with the practical tools needed to build resilient, high-functioning, and productive teams.

A seasoned facilitator, Michael regularly leads team-building workshops designed to build self-awareness, commitment, and trust. His approach blends warmth, insight, and practical strategies that help participants connect across differences, reduce conflicts, and show up fully for one another.

Michael brings a multi-decade corporate background to his work, including 25 years at the 3M Company in sales, marketing, product development, and leadership training. Originally from Brooklyn, NY, he moved to the Midwest to join 3M and has since become a respected leader in the fields of team development and DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion).

He holds a BS in Business from Syracuse University and an MBA from the University of Rochester. While Michael began his career as a successful sales and marketing professional, he transitioned to team-building and inclusion work out of a deep passion for helping people work better together. Over the years, he has developed dozens of practical tools and exercises that make the principles of engagement, accountability, and teamwork both accessible and actionable.

Michael and the IC Edge team are proud to work with organizations of all sizes—including small businesses, nonprofits, corporations, educational institutions, and boards of directors—committed to growing cultures of excellence, inclusion, and mutual respect.
